My Son’s Chess Tournament

My son recently played in a local chess tournament. He did extremely well and he and his partner ended up very high in the tournament rankings.  We had never been to a chess tournament before.  I really couldn’t believe how many people were there.  The tournament room was filled with tons of long tables and chess sets!  Really, I was kind of surprised at how large a turn out there was for this.  I personally, am not all that fond of chess.  To me, it’s kind of boring.  But, my mind does not work the way my son’s mind does.  He is far superior at the game than I am.  He can anticipate his opponents future moves and strategies.  Not me!

Camden is in a chess club at school.  He really loves going to this club once a  week after school!  Many of his friends also participate in this chess club and also participated in the chess tournament.

How To Find A Chess Mentor

Finding a chess mentor is a little difficult if you don’t know where to look.  They’re a lot of them out there, and a lot of them are willing to help you if you just ask.  You may have to pay a high price for the lessons, but they’re going to be well worth it.  Learning from a master is the best experience that you’re going to get.  It’s how I learned chess, and I must say that I’m pretty good at it.  A lot of times you be able to use their chess sets, see you probably will have to buy your own.  Just something we should take into consideration if you don’t already own a nice one.  You would want to show up to a lesson like that with an embarrassing cardboard chess board now would you!  You can try your local hobby store to see if they know anyone that is willing to do that for you.  A lot of times they have connections with these people, there will may even give you a discount on the lessons.
